Research Repository policies
This page summarises the terms under which a work is deposited, the rights and licensing basis for what is shown, how long records and event data are kept, our preservation commitment, and how to raise a concern about anything published here.
Deposit agreement
A depositor grants Fishboard a non-exclusive licence to preserve, display, and distribute a deposited work; moral rights and authorship are never waived, and Fishboard never sells or grants exclusive rights in a work to a third party. Every deposit is reviewed for rights clearance and safety before it becomes visible to anyone outside that review.
Rights and licensing
Each work carries a recorded rights basis — the depositor's own agreement, institutional authorisation, publisher permission, an open-access licence, or public-domain/government-open status — verified by a rights officer who is never the depositor. A work is never made public or registered-visible without a verified rights record.
Retention
Deposited works and their metadata are kept indefinitely, consistent with the preservation commitment below. Operational data with a shorter useful life — raw access-event rows, IP addresses accepted with an agreement, and abandoned pre-account submissions — is retained on a shorter schedule and then reduced to aggregate-only or removed; see the privacy notice for the exact periods.
Preservation
Fishboard computes a SHA-256 fingerprint for every file at deposit and re-checks a rotating sample against it on a schedule, so a corrupted or altered copy is caught rather than silently served. [PENDING: an off-provider backup and a tested restore are being put in place before a permanence guarantee is published here — see the divergences note for this slice.]
Data protection
How personal data submitted through this module is collected, used, and retained is set out in full in the privacy notice.
Notice and takedown
If you believe a work published here infringes a right, breaches privacy, presents a safety or ethics concern, or is factually wrong, use the form below or write to the address given. We acknowledge every notice within 2 business days; for any credible claim, public access is suspended within 5 business days, and immediately for a privacy, patient-data, or safety claim. The depositor is informed and invited to respond, and a decision — with reasons — follows within 20 business days. We never delete a work outright: an upheld claim results in correction, restriction, or a permanent notice in its place, so the record and its citation trail are preserved even when access is not.
